Pricing: one fee, one consultation

We charge for one thing: the consultation. There are no subscriptions, no medication markups, no monthly fees, and no auto-renewals. A one-off phone or video consultation with Dr James — your choice of format at booking — and, where clinically appropriate, a script that is yours to fill at any Australian pharmacy.

Australian doctor Real-time phone or video No subscription From $29.95 Fee-refund policy

What the $29.95 covers

One fee, one consultation. Everything below is included in the flat $29.95 introductory rate. There is nothing extra to buy, and nothing charged automatically afterwards.

Real-time phone or video consultation

A real appointment at a scheduled time — not a form that auto-generates a plan. You choose phone or video at booking. Consult length is generous enough to cover the actual questions rather than the bare minimum.

Full clinical assessment

History, medication review, cardiovascular and metabolic screen, and where indicated, a plan for blood work. This is where the value sits — the write-up at the end is the easy part.

Script if appropriate

If medication is clinically appropriate, an eScript is sent to whichever Australian pharmacy you choose. Prescriptions are valid for 12 months. There is no linked pharmacy and no dispensing fee — you pay the pharmacy directly for any medication.

No ongoing charge

No subscription, no card kept on file for later charges, no auto-renewal. If a follow-up is clinically appropriate, that is discussed at the end of the consult — and you decide whether to book it.

$29.95 is our introductory launch rate

$29.95 is the launch rate while we build our foundation patient base. We are deliberately keeping the fee low during this early period so we can gather feedback and refine the service. Book now and you will be seen at this rate.

One fee for one consultation — no subscription, no medication markups, no lock-in.

Fully private — no Medicare rebate on the consult fee

drjames.au is a fully private telehealth service. There is no Medicare rebate on the consultation fee — you pay $29.95 directly, and that is the whole price. We do not submit anything to Medicare on your behalf for the consult, and you should not expect a rebate to appear later.

Your Medicare card can still be useful at the pharmacy: if a prescription is issued and the medication is PBS-listed, the pharmacy will apply the PBS-subsidised price using your Medicare card. That is a separate pharmacy transaction, not a rebate from drjames.au.

How $29.95 compares to a regular GP visit

A typical in-person GP consultation in Australia carries an out-of-pocket gap of around $40–$80 after the Medicare rebate, depending on consult length and clinic (source: Cleanbill Blue Report 2024). drjames.au is a flat $29.95 introductory rate — no rebate paperwork, no surcharge for longer consults, and the comprehensive online intake means the appointment focuses on your actual situation rather than the basics.

drjames.au is a different option, not a replacement for your regular GP. For ongoing general medical care, keep your GP. If you don't have a regular GP, we can still help with the specific things we cover and will tell you when you need to see someone in person.

Our fee-refund policy

  • Consultation satisfaction refund

Not satisfied with the consultation itself? Contact us and we refund the fee.

  • No-prescription refund

If, after the assessment, no prescription is issued and no further care from drjames.au is planned, we refund the fee. You do not pay for a “no”.

Claim window: 14 days from the consult, in writing to admin@drjames.au. These are fee-refund promises, not therapeutic outcome guarantees — clinical decisions are made on their merits. Full terms in the Terms of Use §12.

What happens after you pay

Payment is taken through standard secure payment methods at the time of booking. From there the flow is straightforward, in four steps.

1

Booking confirmation

You receive a confirmation email with the appointment time and a link to the intake form.

2

Intake form before the consult

Most of the history-taking is done through the intake form so the appointment focuses on discussion and clinical decisions, not data entry.

3

The consult

Phone or video at the scheduled time, with Dr James — an Australian doctor, GP registrar. Full assessment, discussion, and clinical decisions.

4

That is the whole fee: no booking fee, no subscription, and no card kept on file for later automatic charges. It buys a real-time phone or video consultation with Dr James, an Australian doctor and GP registrar.

Is there a Medicare rebate on the consult fee?

No. drjames.au is a fully private service — there is no Medicare rebate on the consult fee. If a prescription is issued and the medication is PBS-listed, your Medicare card can still be used by your pharmacy for the PBS-subsidised medication cost. That is a separate pharmacy transaction, not a rebate from drjames.au.

How does $29.95 compare to seeing my regular GP?

A typical in-person GP consultation in Australia carries an out-of-pocket gap of around $40–$80 after the Medicare rebate, depending on consult length and clinic (source: Cleanbill Blue Report 2024). drjames.au is a flat $29.95 introductory rate. What if no prescription is issued — do I still pay?

Two fee-refund promises apply. First, if you are not satisfied with the consultation itself, we refund the fee. Second, if after the assessment no prescription is issued and no further care from drjames.au is planned, we refund the fee — you do not pay for a 'no'. Claims must be made in writing to admin@drjames.au within 14 days of the consult. These are fee-refund promises, not therapeutic outcome guarantees — clinical decisions are made on their merits. How do I pay and what happens after payment?

Payment is taken through standard secure payment methods at the time of booking.
